Caring for the environment has become one of the and most urgent issues of our time – and it is never too early to start. These books and gifts offer simple, inspiring and effective ways to engage children with the natural world.

-Barefoot Books

One of my favorite books in the Natural Child collection is Herb, The Vegetarian Dragon. It is the very first Barefoot Book that I ever bought. The main reason I bought it is because I’m a vegetarian and I thought Herb would be a fun way to introduce being a vegetarian to my kids. Plus, the illustrations are so vibrant. Even thought there are lots of words on a page (for little ones that can be difficult to sit through), the colorful pages keeps your child totally engaged in the story. Herb is a gentle soul among a world of dark and aggressive dragons and humans. He brings peace, understanding and acceptance to his world. It is a great lesson for our children!

Herb, The Vegetarian Dragon

Meet Herb, a dragon who knows how to stay true to his values even in the stickiest of situations. When he is captured by the castle’s knights in armor, vegetarian Herb is faced with a difficult decision: will he eat meat in order to save his own life?
